Apparently a mechanic stole it and took off

I would have been clueless, unless the elevation of plane or the noise level of chase was extreme

I’ve heard some of the conversation with traffic control. He sounds odd, almost frantic. Apologetic. It’s not funny.

"Most terrorists don't do loops over the water," Sheriff Paul Pastor said. "This might have been a joyride gone terribly wrong."

Nah, that guy knew he wasn't coming back. Taking off is the easy part. Especially with planes these days that are very automated and have in failsafes and checks to make sure everything goes smoothly. Landing is the tricky part.

In either case, it's certainly tragic.

He was suicidal.

I can't imagine an airport safe enough for a guy in that mental state to attempt a landing

But he laughed it off and said they wouldn't want that.

He then basically said his plan was to nosedive it safely into the ground.

Which is what he did.

The guy is trolling reporters with pictures of testicles.

Such calmness in his voice. The whole event was a look inside a mans soul who's determined he can't take the status quo anymore. Compelling and sad. Didnt hurt anybody but the cheap ass airline he worked for for min wage. RIP Rich.

The fire hazard up here is horrible right now. There’s a big one at the crash site but it can’t go anywhere.

Co-workers, ex- wives, ex-girlfriends -- office towers full of people.

By intent or not, everybody got lucky.

Let's be grateful about that at least. He was obviously a troubled person, yet he only killed himself. Sad, but it could have been much, much worse.

Not really, and I'm not minimizing the seriousness of all this, but there does need to be some sort of external control interlock for starting commercial jets. If you had to have a confirmation code transmitted to the plane before doing the start-up sequence, it would be impossible to steal a plane like that.

The “expert” (missed exact title) said it was a one off and he didn’t expect changes to be made. The plane was in a cargo area and ACT did an amazing job protecting people once they realized what was going on, both on runways and in the air.

Really easy to start if you know how.

Not an outsider, you want to institute a program that might cost hundreds of millions of dollars? The airlines will fight that tooth and nail.

Mind you, I’m in Seattle where we’re shocked and sad. But it is an unusual and tragic story.

But there’s good news. There are a myriad of other ways to occupy your time outside of watching 14 hours of MSNBC on a Saturday.

Apparently he has a blog and has done YouTube videos. I just heard this on local news. I haven’t looked them up yet.

Just a normal average guy. Had a bad day, and it seems it got away from him. A cascade of bad choices unfortunately.
