Trump doesn't "believe" what he is saying, and a bunch of the Trumpies know he is lying.

One thing the news stays guilty of is telling us that "Trump believes" this or that. For example, on CNN, it is not unusual to hear a commentator say something like, "Trump wants to be interviewed by Mueller despite what his lawyers say, because Trump believes he can persuade Mueller that there hasn't been any wrongdoing."

No. Just no. The CNN commentator doesn't know what Trump believes, and they shouldn't be telling us Trump believes something that he probably doesn't believe. Trump doesn't believe he can convince Mueller of anything. Trump is just saying he wants the interview (but his lawyers won't let him) in order to "act innocent." He's like a toy poodle barking and straining at his leash trying to get at the Doberman across the street. Trump is glad to have the leash and doesn't want to be allowed to run across the street to the Doberman.

Then a significant number of the Trumpies don't believe Trump, and it is wrong for commentators to tell us that they do. Quite a few of those Trumpie "deceived sweeties" aren't being lied to. They don't believe Trump's lies. On the contrary, they are willingly accepting Trump lying on their behalf. They are in on it. A bunch of the folks at those Trump rallies, in other words, are there to help Trump deceive the others.

So, so tired of the media saying “the President believes” as if he is an honest person with honestly held beliefs of any kind. He is a total fraud and everyone, including the cult members, know it.

Great analogy, and it also applies to tRump's relations with leaders around the world.

About time someone says it. Trump doesn't "Mistakenly believe" anything. He doesn't "miss speak". He is just a deceitful, lying Bastard and many of his supporters are also.

I have been ranting about this and thought I was all alone on an island. So glad to know others are annoyed, too!

simply because that is one of the biggest lies Trump constantly spouts. The commentator was a mainstream reporter too, not a Fox flunky

CNN tends to be more guilty of that than the other cable channels. Their model of reporting information, the opening it up for "analysis" confuses the issues.

Donald Trump says he wants to sit down with Mueller. The question about why, when, and how should be directed at Trump. "You say you want to sit with Mueller, when? what are you doing to make that happen? why would you want/not want to sit down with Mueller?

Instead they guess at what he is thinking. We can get an idea of what Trump is saying through tweets and his statements, but as you said, we are not in his head.

What we know from a pattern of behavior from Trump is as you said, he wants to project an image of confidence, of innocence, of willingness to fight; where it is highly probable that those are merely projections.
