I just thought of a way to get honest presidential elections. It would be easy and it would work.

.....And it is cheap......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....Here it is, one day, perhaps a Sunday is for Presidential elections ...ONLY... no other elections of any kind

....And to insure that the election is clean and verifiable, ONLY PAPER BALLOTS, HAND COUNTED....
... AGAIN........all hand counted, and checked by live, by volunteers of both parties..and observers.

.. Certain volunteers of both parties, or more, could ask to see a ballot, and inspect. It shouldn't be hard because it is only for President of the United States. On a Sunday..So, you have 3 and 3 of each party watching...Ok, another party,,,3 more volunteers..now you have 9 sitting at the table watching in a precinct. And the poll watchers count, and recount if someone wants a recount..and it will work, it isn't hard to do, no machines just people hand counting simple ballots. NO COUNTING MACHINES..simple typing paper..8 1/2 by 11..for President only....

Ok there is a question about a ballot..the X is not in the box, or it doesn't look like an X or it is a Z or some other problem. So the 3 and 3 team of poll watchers pass the damn ballot around and vote on whether to accept or not accept a Z and not an X. Reasonable people will make reasonable decisions. 3 from each party will insure no cheating.. or 3 more from the Green, or Independent party....or Conservative Party, or Socialist Party or whatever party...... Now..here is the most important part....Let's say 500 votes in a precinct..ok 600 votes..whatever.. How long would it take to count 600 votes? Well not long. Say a pile for the Democrats, one for the Republican, one for the Green, one pile for the Spleen Party and one for the Conservative and one for the Socialist etc. ...Maybe an hour. Maybe less. That includes arguments and coffee breaks and TV time etc.. Try it, it will work. I participated in something like that about 45 years ago, and it wasn't difficult. I was a volunteer at the time, not a poll watcher, no official title...and I said to the person in charge, "could I count them please." They had been counted. and my candidate, an independent had 50, and the regular party candidate had 120, and there was one other candidate that had maybe 25....

AND GUESS WHAT...The regular party boss, knew the people who voted in the precinct, (he met them and knew them over years)..he said yes, "You can count them" And everyone agreed, I could count them...and guess what?......................................................................................................
...He did not cheat. His candidate had about 120, mine had 50 and the other had 20. (mind you this was in 1970 or 71 so my numbers may not be totally correct, but you get the idea). It was fair, legal, easy to do, and the ballots were saved. All the official poll watchers, (I think there were indeed 3 and 3 and 3 ..not sure)) signed off on the numbers, and we went home at about 8:30 or 9pm. Paper ballots, easy counting, all sign off on final numbers..and other people can watch if they shut the fuck up and let the numbers get counted. (I shouldn't have been allowed to count, but it didn't matter, cause it was a fair count and the head poll watcher was honest and truthful. No cheating, no machines, no arguments.. Simple, fair, easy and honest....
.
.........It will never get done, too simple, too easy, and too honest..But it was done, and it did work..And one more item..I am not making this up. I was there and it was a local election..but that didn't matter. It was honest and fair. We left after all the counting was done by 8:30. Polls closed at 6pm then.. 2 and one half total, for count and recount..

...you are right. We had a team of 4 at each polling place ( when we had polling places) and two of us read the ballot choices and two of us marked it on a piece of paper with a pencil. We dbl checked each other and we were Ds and Rs in the room. We have always had paper ballots in wash state and now we are all paper and all mail in!

I find it significant that every single company that supplies voting machines in the US is run by a Republican backer.

Paper ballots with strict impartial third party collection, custody, counting...all video recorded.

Not hard to do.

If democrats ever get control we need to push them hard to go to that system.

Whether it be strict third party collection, custody, counting or bi partisan volunteer counting, all video recorded and double checked, by non affiliated volunteers..whatever......you are correct..."Not hard to do"

11. Voting would go way down, with only one day to vote.

Many would not be available that day. And don't forget that many people work Sundays, or work OT a lot, so ability to vote at night during the week is a plus.

AND...remember the lines to vote for Obama? Can you imagine if there is only ONE DAY to vote? What those lines would be like w/o early voting?
