...or give any credence to what they may say they believe.

Very few are stupid enough to believe he's not a racist. Two ways to define folks denying the obvious: they're either ignorant or prevaricating.

Trump's racism is plain for all to see and doesn't need the tape as proof of it. Any tape would simply be more evidence of what we already know about Trump.

Everyone else actually does.

All of these accusations hinge on recordings that people keep saying exist. Until they are produced, nothing is proven in the minds of a great many people.

...not sure there's any value in playing the game of producing a tape to prove what we already know from Trump's public statements and actions.

As salacious as the use of that word by Trump would be, it would only touch on a fraction of the harm and division he's committing and fomenting with clear racial bias and animus against black and brown people. Much of these instances have real life consequences, not just harm from the slander or discrimination associated with the slur, but actual consequence to life, limb, and liberty.

What occurs in small, ignorant minds is really no consequence at all to the truth, and should be called out right along with the offender - especially when that ignorance is little more than a wink and a nod to the bigotry.

He still won.

It's my opinion that the tapes are needed to convince a great many people.

...and their president. By their works shall we know them.

There's no more benefit of the doubt. There's a large and growing resistance to Trump and his henchmen, while this base (which everyone knows is as thick as bricks) is polling no better than their president.
