...In other news, the Twitter feed of the President of the United States this morning was unhinged, undemocratic, a breach of decorum and sanity, with dog whistles of misogyny and racism... well I guess that really isn't news.

Jeff Flake Retweeted Donald J. Trump
This kind of language is unbecoming of a President of the United States. There is no excuse for it, and Republicans should not be okay with it.

When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didnt work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!

(26,291 posts)and is simply trying to position himself to be able to run for office later either as President or Governor most likely if not another term in the Senate later on once the heat as cooled down.
After all his voting record reveals the real Flake.

(81,267 posts)Why dont you DO SOMETHING???? Youre not running for re-election. You have nothing at risk. Youre as free as can be to make a stink here or a grand in-yet-face gesture like - how bout I deny you my vote on Kavanaugh if you dont (fill in the blank here)? He could really have an impact.

(9,425 posts)Rethugs are EVER going to agree or cooperate with Democrats/Progressives on ANYTHING EVER AGAIN?
I'm pushing 70, would like to think I'm reasonably well informed and always have been, I have to say I have never seen or imagined the country could be so fractionalized as it currently is.
The current state of the country and the possibility of removing King tRumpy from office by voting or impeachment is going to be a nightmare and not without bloodshed in my opinion.

(253 posts)Perhaps someday there will be a new conservative party that acts like the R party of 50+ years ago run by people like Kasich, Schmidt, Frum, Dent and Jolly, etc. who will be willing to work with Dems to get some things done for the good of country.
Personally, I very strongly doubt I will agree with the core positions of such a party, but I will be able to respect their integrity.

(14,150 posts).... in any direction they so choose. Or we stand our ground and fight for Democracy to live another day, continue to evolve, and hopefully flourish. We either accomplish this at the ballot box or in the streets.
Ultimately the citizenry will determine whether this never ending conflict or contest with one side supporting Fascism and authoritarianism while the other side supports a thriving Democracy is worthy of a potential Civil War and if these opposing ideologies are worth that sort of a stepped up conflict to defend their separate and divergent political concepts that seem unable to ever find common ground once again.
One hopes for a civilized resolution to these political dilemmas but some spilled blood looks to inevitably be a component in the equation that brings closure and finality to this problem that has for decades been spinning out of control.
Neighbor against neighbor and family against family constantly grows more contentious - sometime soon we will arrive at the breaking point - rather than spinning beyond our control we will reach the point where things ultimately explode.
That is not going to be a proud moment or pretty for anyone - in any shape or form. A Civil War under any circumstances is not a beautiful thing - it is unfortunate we never really finished fighting the first one. If we had put various issues to rest back then -those same issues would not be back haunting us today and dragging us back to the brink of a Second Civil War to basically address these very same issues again.
Let's look forward rather than look back is sometimes a failed concept - if the wounds and injuries of yesterday are allowed to fester and infect and bring dis-ease to our tomorrows - that tells us our healing process is also failed and flawed - in need of modification to achieve a more sustainable and desired result so the healing process is more long term and complete.
Only then society can move beyond those issues and build better futures with brighter tomorrows. Rather than stuck in the no man's land of old, stale, self-consuming, and self-defeating - mindless hate.
It is a sin but we might have to revisit and finish the first Civil War so that or society can grow and mature beyond our deeply ingrained racism and hatred.
We owe so much thanks for Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for having brought us to this flash point and having given us decades upon decades of their propaganda of hate - day in and day out for fucking decades. What did they think would be the result ? A dysfunctional America - society divided down the middle - a decimated Democracy - a damaged population with each one at the other's throats.
