ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Reuters) - Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manaforts lawyer on Tuesday said his legal team chose not to mount a defense in his trial over alleged tax and bank fraud because U.S. prosecutors had not met the legal bar needed to prove their case.
Weve rested because Mr. Manafort and his legal team do not think the government has met its proof, Kevin Downing told Reuters.

(82,849 posts)3. We'll see if the jury agrees with you, Mr. Downing
I hope your invoices are all paid up, because if your client goes to prison, you've been working for free.
Or, maybe because Paul's broke you've been working for free all this time, and you didn't want to throw good money after bad by mounting a preposterous defense to the damning documentary evidence and testimony against your client.

They can only argue that the government's case was flawed and/or politically motivated.

if Trump pardons him. All these people belong in jail. There is something wrong with our system - if these criminals can get away with crimes because a criminal himself is the president.

And the Court and Jury will decide if the burden of proof was met.
