MAJORITY MAKER: Lee Snodgrass for WI-SD19
Lee has made Appleton her home for more than 20 years. She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of a paper mill engineer and a registered nurse. A paper mill industry brat, her fathers career took the family to Ohio and Delaware before landing in Green Bay, WI where she spent most of her childhood. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison receiving a BA in English. After graduation she moved to suburban Maryland working in public relations in the book wholesale industry.
In 1995, Lee returned to Wisconsin and following in her fathers footsteps, took a position in marketing and sales at Fox River Paper Company. Lees career in communications and marketing has spanned from private industry, independent consulting, to her current position as the Director of Communications for Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, serving 58 counties in Wisconsin and Michigans Upper Peninsula. Her work through the Girl Scouts provides opportunity for service that align with her strong commitment to female empowerment through life changing experiences where girls are poised to make the world a better place. Lees values of engagement in the process and service to others are part of how she was raised, and how she is raising her own children. She believes that when we invest in providing tools, resources, and opportunities for people to succeed we all benefit from this collective success.
Lees passion for politics began early when her mother brought her to the voting booth as a child, instilling in her the sense of personal responsibility to participate in our democracy. As a college student, she was a campaign volunteer for both Tammy Baldwins first Assembly campaign and Russ Feingolds first Senate campaign, continuing to be a key campaign volunteer in races from the John Kerry to the recent Clinton campaign. Her commitment to community and political engagement culminated with her election to the chair of the Democratic Party of Outagamie County in December of 2016.
Lee has two children who motivate her to change the world. Her son is a junior at Appleton North with a passion for social justice and jazz. Her daughter is a freshman at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities majoring in political science and minoring in Chinese and economics. In rare free moments, she likes gardening, running near the river, a good book, and keeping people on their toes.
