Ainsley Earhardt is a dolt. the person who wrote the script she reads from the teleprompter may also be a dolt. however, when we mock them over this mistake, we miss the forest through the trees. what they said is stupid, like failing 7th grade history stupid, but that's barely a story.

first we need to be crystal clear about this: whether or not you happen to agree with his assessment, what Cuomo said was STUPID. like a nice batch of presents under a goddam christmas tree for NY Republicans. i think he can turn things around and still win his race this fall without depressing support for down-ballot races, but it will require a lot more effort now.

back to the dolts at Fox. we underestimate how forgiving their audience is. when she says, "we defeated communist Japan, radical Islamists," they're going to think, "well she misspoke, but what she meant is we defeated communists, Japan, and radical Islamists."

while we laugh at her doltishness and fixate on minutiae, they've already gotten the intended message and moved on to the next thing: bashing Gov. Cuomo. the rest of her statement provides an embrace of militarism, patriotism and a direct reference to the national anthem. what will Fox viewers remember? will it be the doltish mistake, or the nationalist call to support the troops that follows it?

i swear, the writers at Fox News probably dropped that turd into the mix just to confuse the liberals. while we're pointing and laughing and blogging and retweeting about how Japan wasn't communist, the target audience is getting pissed off and emptying their wallets at NY state races. this is a dismal situation for us, no question.
