Pelosi pulls in staggering sums for Dems despite facing opposition in the ranks

Except for a few issues, I stand with Nancy. And Thank you Nancy for all your work for us.

Pelosi pulls in staggering sums for Dems despite facing opposition in the ranks

(CNN)A number of Democrats running for the House have shunned Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi -- but they may have to thank her for their seats if they win this fall.

Internal documents obtained by CNN show that the California Democrat remains a fundraising juggernaut for House Democrats as they battle to pick up the 23 seats they need to retake the House majority for the first time since the GOP won control of the chamber in the 2010 midterms.

Through June, Pelosi had raised an eye-popping $83 million for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for the 2018 election cycle, more than double the next closest Democrat, according to an internal list for the group charged with electing more Democrats to the US House of Representatives. A source briefed on the matter said that through July she had raised nearly $91 million for the party committee, which is spending big in hotly contested races including where Democratic candidates are running away from Pelosi.

Despite facing more opposition from Democrats than any other time in her career, Pelosi's fundraising strength remains her biggest asset -- a clear sign why she continues to maintain a hold atop her caucus. If Democrats retake the House in November, Pelosi is certain to use that appeal to try to convince even her skeptics to give her another opportunity to take the speaker's gavel.

Yet Democrats running in Republican-leaning districts are wary of being tied too closely to her -- even though her fundraising is certain to help bankroll DCCC ad campaigns in their districts.

if pelosi doesnt become the speaker then we failed to resist rw talking points. She is not the first and not the last to be baselessly smeared by rw. In fact, it is a sign she is effective and they are afraid of her. They dont go after lightweights.

4. About candidates who shun her, she says "Do what you have to do; just win, Baby, win!"

That's a smart attitude and will benefit Nancy greatly.

And a big plus in her favor.

However, I wish it weren't the case.

I hate that money=power in this environment. I long for a day when money in politics is NOT an important characteristic of the leaders we select.

7. Agreed. Irritating when this is simply reported as a good thing, as if money comes out of the ether

rather than from those who have it. And of course those who have it typically want more of it. I haven't seen a compelling candidate put forward to replace Pelosi and I like her well enough, but there is a more nuanced way of interpreting her fundraising that doesn't frame it as pure winning...

Where do you think this money goes? Into Pelosi's pocket? Hinting of corruption.

When big donors, particularly corporate donors give money, how likely is it that they aren't looking for a return on that investment? They want candidates who aren't going to be a major thorn in their side to win. It may feel entirely appropriate to take that money because they are just supporting our candidates who share the same values, but it gives those candidates a huge advantage.

What is a snore-fest is pretending money doesn't have power in our election system, or that it only has power on the Republican side, but those of you who try to pass this issue off as laughable(I guess its getting harder to ignore it) never actually dig into the details and make that case. If you've got one please advance it. I'm ready to learn.

10. Corporations give money to athletes, ballet and opera companies, libraries, etc.

LOL, do you think they are looking for a return on that investment? If the athlete doesn't win a medal they have them wacked? They get to decide if the ballet companies do "Swan Lake" or "Walmart Lake"? The whole "every politician is corrupt" thing is silly. "I'm ready to learn"

Repubs simply afraid of her. I could understand some Dems in moderate-to-conserv districts saying they wouldn't support her as speaker to try and win over mods & iffy inds, but I wish they'd realize how good a Speaker she is and not offer their abandonment w/o a direct question.
