Youth have healthier behaviors today than they did 25 years ago, according to new data from the Youth Behavior Surveillance Survey. This data set, which has been released biannually for more than 25 years, is one of the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) only consistent windows on trends in youth behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults.
While there are a handful of disappointing trends (e.g., increases in obesity and time spent gaming, and decreases in sleep and consumption of vegetables), more youth today than ever before report wearing seatbelts, and fewer report that they smoke cigarettes, consume alcohol, take drugs, have sex, and do these things in combination. Here are the positive trends:

Gun violence is the most common cause of death for young men

The most recent one I found on youth drunk driving:
"Between 1991 and 2013, the percentage of high school students who report riding
in a car with someone who had been drinking alcohol has fallen by nearly half,
from 40 to 22 percent."

(51,598 posts)Guns contribute to 30% as a cause of death while vehicles is 25%. I guess that number won't be dropping any time soon as long as the NRA and GOP are a gruesome twosome.
