Revoking a tax cut for automakers would pay for the program.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced a bill to help Americans buy American-made cars. Called the American Cars, American Jobs Act, the bill proposes giving a $3,500 incentive to customers who buy a new America-made vehicle. The incentive is available for new-car purchases and qualifying five-year leases.
Browns bill also proposes revoking a special GOP tax cut on overseas profits for auto manufacturers that ship jobs overseas" to pay for the temporary program. Vehicles with at least 45 percent of materials form the U.S. and Canada would qualify for the program.
There are two simple parts: customers who buy cars made in America get a discount and corporations that send jobs overseas lose a special tax break, Brown said in the bill's announcement. We shouldnt be handing out 50 percent off coupons to companies that send jobs overseas.

With this bill, Brown is issuing a challenge to the Republicans!
1. By passing this bill the Republicans show that they are serious about keeping jobs here!
2. By letting this bill die, Brown shows that the Republicans to include Trump, are not serious about keeping jobs here!

(17,984 posts)10K a year at 7 mpg and gas at $2.60 a gallon = $3715
I can save the rest of that $20K for when gas does climb to $1000 a gallon.

(796 posts)too late. this "buy American" shit is tired. very little you buy is made here. even if they are put together here, the parts for cars are made anywhere else but here.
the "Buy American" ship done sailed, and then sank rapidly. we've been played for the last 4 decades at least. that's yer fucking MAGA.
How are they going to define "American made"? Is a BMW assembled in SC American made?

(19,257 posts)Unless it gets 45+ mpg average (not just highway) while roomy enough for a family of 4, I'm not interested. About the only US-made car I'd consider is a Chevy Bolt or Volt at this point. They're the only things that can beat the Prius V station wagon I currently drive.

I've seen this kind of basic spelling mistake often. It seems that some editors have the same kind of dyslexic affliction as their proofreaders. It could be that proofreaders are too costly.
The number of spelling errors just seems weird to me given the technology we have at our fingertips.
Back around 1968 I worked for a local newspaper where the majority of the body of the paper was typeset on a Linotype machine
The skill to both kern and correct spelling, grammatical errors and toss the bad lines on the fly was a sight to watch.
