When I was in the army I helped process 20,000 cuban refugees into the country.

When we got our orders to move out the lies and rumors started flying. Castro is sending his worst here, he is sending murderers here, he is cleaning out his prisons. Sound familiar? It effected the moral of many soldiers in my company.

When we arrived at Fort Mccoy Wisconsin and got to work, we saw the children. All the lies and rumors went out the window. We all went to work. We worked three, eight hour shifts a day, seven days a week. No days off. We had six months to get the job done. We got in done in two months.

It was one of craziest, most amazing moments of my life. I never felt so proud. President Carter awarded us the humanitarian service award.

Fuck Trump, Fuck his voters. They are not Americans. You have to earn the title of American. That how I see it.

Cuban “exiles” are an exalted immigrant demographic, with many many special socialist perks just for them. Perks created with bipartisan support.

All of my Miami relatives are Dem voters.
Almost all the young Cuban-Americans are liberals.

I was talking about the exiles specifically, though. They're mostly in their 60's now and have established business connections in south FL. I'm talking Chamber of Commerce types, if that helps differentiate...

When I was in college, my roommate had an insane hatred for Cibans, both male and female. He was a White guy from Miami. My best male friend in engineering college was a Cuban guy, though we were in different engineering colleges, we would meet and chat between class changes or if both of us had free study time. Two of my closest female friends were wonderful Cuban engineering students in my college. All of the students were respectful of other people and progressive.

We are at a place in history where those in power want to rid the country of non-white people. If they can’t because of citizenship, then they want to marginalize and strip the rights provided under the Constitution. Some are even questioning if being born in this country equals automatic citizenship.

They want a country for and by white people. And only those who agree with them. They will come for all of us eventually if we let them.

Saw the refugees standing on the courthouse lawn in their Sunday best holding one tiny suitcase. To leave everything you have, or have ever known for freedom and opportunity touched my heart. I was proud to welcome them to America .

All these years later I wonder what happened to them . Is there a little Cuba in Wisconsin? How many of them have become outstanding Americans. I bet many of them have become very good Americans, along with their children. I will never regret what I did back then.

The hardest part for me was we were restricted to the base for the entire time we were there. It became a great challenge for me to break that rule. I wanted to see Wisconsin, I wanted to find a bar with a pool table. It took me a while but I did finally escape and sneak off post. Good times. Lol.

I moved to Miami in the years right after Mariel. The shame those people had to endure. Some of the hardest working people you will ever meet. Many of them wanted to hide their Mariel roots, even from fellow Cubans.

A few weeks ago I ate at a restaurant where the owners proudly proclaimed their Mariel roots. They own a successful chain of restaurants in south Florida. Family story placed prominently on the menu.

Thank you for your humanity and service to our new Americans.

We had two of the females from our company with us. The state park was closed. We drove in, parked and built a fire. Had a few drinks until the state police showed up. The officer asked, Are you from the military base? I wanted to say what was your first clue? The deuce & half. I held my tongue.

He said you have to leave. We drove back to base wondering what would happen, after all we did borrow a deuce &half without permission. They just yelled at us. It was an amazing time.

because everything is a lie. This is the state we are in now, the fascists have been working toward this end for decades. These monsters are not Americans and refugees from any nation have more right to be here than any fascist republican.

Some got their graduate degrees here. They've been employed here for a decade or more. Their visas are not being renewed by Homeland Security.

The folks in his business are wondering how they are going to get another employee up to speed, if they can even find someone qualified and willing to do the job.
