Trump and the Russians present a great challenge to our democracy.
Notwithstanding the ridicule and name-calling, Donald Trump is a master propagandist. We minimize that at our own risks. With the help of his Russian comrades, it is a real struggle for Mueller and our FBI to stay ahead of their maneuvers to obstruct our laws and to tear down our institutions. This is a death match.
The wildcard in the battle is the Republican Party and their refusal to get involved, even as they are told over and over that we are under attack by the Russians. Their only thought is to get by the November elections and still maintain their majority. They have nothing to offer the people, so their strategy will probably take place in the week or two before the election, at they go on an all-out assault against the Democrats and brag about their "great" economy. They hope that will be enough to keep the Democrats out of the majority.
Trump, with his total lack of regard for the law or rules of convention, is ready to spring on every opportunity to obstruct and to distract from the investigation of Robert Mueller. There should be no doubt but that he wants to end it. If he cannot kill it immediately, he will attempt to kill it with a thousand cuts, just as he takes away the security clearances from all the witnesses, one at a time.
Where does it go if the Republicans have signed out and refuse to involve themselves in saving our democracy? What happens when Mueller hands over his report to Rosenstein? What happens if Rosenstein turns the report over to Mitch McConnell? I do not see an easy road ahead unless there is a bombshell tape or witness that comes forth?
