if the jury is deadlocked on some of the charges but not all of them, does it have to become a mistrial?

1. No, he will be convicted on counts where they voted for conviction and acquitted on the counts

On which he was acquitted. Mistrial for the remaining counts. Government can decide to retry those counts or drop them.
