https://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCAKCN1L515Z-OCATPRussia accused the United States of trying to break the spirit in jail of Maria Butina, a woman U.S. authorities say is a Russian government agent, and complained she was being subjected to borderline torture.
...
Russias U.S. embassy said in a statement on Sunday that Butina had been transferred from a prison in Washington to one in Virginia on Friday without notice or explanation and that her personal belongings had also been confiscated.
She had been subjected to a strip search and shackled during the transfer, it alleged, before being held in a cell for 12 hours without food and with the lights on. She now faced a solitary confinement regime, it said.
Her situation is getting worse. Its obvious that attempts are being made to break Maria using additional humiliation and psychological pressure, the embassy said.
We have more and more questions for the U.S. justice system. Should Maria really be doomed to suffer such borderline torture before a court verdict on the allegations against her? This lawlessness must stop.

At least she's alive. Sergej Magnitsky didn't survive his pre-trial detention.

they are the last country who should complain about prison conditions.

(52,243 posts)5. perhaps the russian might tell us if they think waterboarding is torture?
not advocating it, just curious as to whether they think waterboarding would be more humane than what she's enduring now.

I doubt the propagandists who write this drivel even know what it is she knows, but they know that their bosses are concerned.

The projection always gives them away. Liars think everyone is lying to them. Cheats think people are cheating them. Thieves just know everyone is stealing from them.
