(81,859 posts)To me it sounds better for the prosecution. It means they are working through the issues. They could have been done on Friday if they wanted to get out of there.

(26,060 posts)and says just the opposite. That a quick verdict is what the defense wants. The more they look at the evidence, especially whe there is so much, the worse for the defendant. She's more concerned about a mistrial and she says it's really too soon for that.

(10,437 posts)18 charges to rule individually on?
lapfog_1
(29,205 posts)Most were interrelated (guilty of #2 means guilty on #3 and #4, for example).

(10,437 posts)4 charges we voted guilty on first day. 2nd day we had 1 not guilty, 3rd day 4 guilty, last day not guilty. Charges weren't financial based crimes. Takes time to review evidence and take votes, discuss, take more votes.

(130,915 posts)there are 17/18 counts, LOTS of paper; the jury is diligently doing it's difficult job.

(819 posts)Hung jury on 18 counts doesn't happen in 3 days.

(4,602 posts)Jury would not be asking to extend their working day if someone had declared they would not convict at all. Theyd know by now if they had one of those.

(202 posts)there are 18 charges and 10,000 documents for them to sift through. They are doing the good job juries are supposed to do. He will be found guilty on at least half of the charges. That is my buck fifty.

are close to an end (could be good or bad, including hung jury), and the 6:15 was given when lawyers asked for an estimated time end. If I were the judge, I would not have asked the jury for a time, and told the lawyers to let them go on deliberating as long as they need.. but this Judge sounds unqualified to be a Judge.

(6,324 posts)Keeping a jury late means keeping court staff late, security late, making sure they are fed, etc.
Its a big deal, especially in a federal facility where you have union contracts about who can work what hours before lots of stuff kicks in. It means keeping staffing at security checkpoints at the entrances and a lot more far later.
I will wager there is a 7:00 hard time for everyone to be out of the building so the security at the entrances can go home and the 6:15 time is to ensure everyone is out by 7:00.

(15,286 posts)staying late today. I doubt it's any more complicated than that.

(6,798 posts)If I were a juror, I would want to make sure I left no room for second guessing. Remember, they know all of this is within the Trump-universe. Trump might start tweeting about the jurors if Manafort is found guilty on all or any of the counts.

(1,439 posts)the jury is unanimous on some charges but split on others.
Would all 18 charges be subject to a retrial or just the ones where no unanimous verdict was reached?
Hope the question makes sense.
honest.abe
(8,678 posts)then the prosecution wouldnt bother retrying the others.

(2,146 posts)The guilty would stick...the "hung" could be retried...but there's still a D.C. case due in Sept that makes this seem small...

(52,162 posts)the rest could be retried if the prosecutor wished to. In Senator Edwards trial he was acquitted on one count, rest were hung. Prosecutor decided against retrying. He got his Congressional seat out of it so he was happy.
