Look at the excuses Mitt has offered up:
Democrats are mean.
His tax returns are politically damaging.
It's none of "you people's" business.
He's not a business, even though he insists "corporations are people, my friend."
His stonewalling has led to significant drops in the polls.
His coments, reports about his business dealings and his stonewalling guarantees that his tax returns are going to be thoroughly inspected. If he doesn't release them soon, he'll continue to get hammered.
It's a lose-lose for Mitt.
Which brings to mind this claim by Abby Huntsman, Jon Huntsman's daughter:

...with a sense of entitlement. He's used to getting what he wants. He will never drop out. He will suffer the massive loss of public trust, but he will never release his returns.

(53,661 posts)In my wicked imagination, I think that since he has money all over the world, that is part of it. Some have suggested he has made arrangements with groups, oligarchs or nations that would be illegal.
And in so doing he would have to give up so much American resources or in other terms our sovereign rights to things within our borders to other countries, that he would be run out if discovered.
Is his fealty to those nations greater than his alleged love of America or what he wants to turn it as POTUS? His ilk have a reputation of being fickle:
Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.

He just keeps "putting his big foot in his mouth" and that is delightful for Obama to run against him.

(33,688 posts)and Mittwit. Kos posted something to the effect that the animosity goes back at least as far as the SLC Olympics. Huntsman Sr, who is apparently rich enough to buy and sell Mittens several times over, touted Huntsman Jr for the position that Romney weaseled himself into. The Huntsman clan was apparently not pleased, and had no baseline of affection for Mittwit even before that. Which was one of the reasons Huntsman ran in the primaries.
Romney is gonna go down, and hard.

Obviously there is already evidence that he purjured himself, why is that not grounds for investigation?
What I mean is, he said he left Bain in 99, BUT signed the SEC filings, THEN said he was not employed by Bain again when filing with the FEC - so right there, he lied to the govt in some capacity. Can't the IRS or someone else audit him? I don't get it...

(22,000 posts)It's hard to tell for sure whether it is or whether it is conjecture. The bad blood between the families is obvious. Huntsman got knocked out of the primaries basically when they started.

...interesting that no one has attacked her for making a statement that's as damaging as Reid's.

(7,403 posts)Had Romney released his tax returns during the Republican primary season the issue may have lasted 2-3 weeks but after the voters had spoken the issue would have largely died out. Now it is too late for that to ever happen. Romney has been forever defined as the "he'll do what is politically expedient at the time, with little concern for transparency" candidate and that shows up in his high negatives. It also showed up in his overseas trip where he was a non-stop gaffe machine not ready for the world stage. If Romney cannot produce when handed a script how can he produce in a debate that is unscripted or worse, govern a nation? Who would have thought that Romney, with all of his money, would be such a terrible candidate. McCain was right to pass over Romney for his VP pick even if his choice was the awful Sarah Palin.
