Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) announced on Tuesday that she has no plans to running for president in 2020.
Warren spoke at the National Press Club today as part of the roll out for the Anti-Corruption and Public Integrity Act a new bill aimed at restricting politicians who want to become lobbyists after leaving office. The bills proposals include the establishment of an independent anti-corruption agency, a ban on elected officials owning stock in office, and a requirement for the IRS to release the tax returns of any presidential candidates.
Since Warren is frequently cited by Democrats as a possible contender to go up against Donald Trump, she was asked at one point today if she intends on running for president.
Her answer:
I am not running for president in 2020. I am running for the Senate in 2018. The important fight coming up right now is the midterm election.

Shades of 2016.....

(94,591 posts)Warren said in 2016 she wouldn't run, and she didn't, DESPITE what folks here said. She said in 2018 that she wouldn't run, AND she said she would serve her full term. As someone who's met her five times, I'm going to go with what she says.
FWIW - I'm not thinking for a minute about 2020. We have thousands of elections to get through in 2018.

(39,374 posts)It was much easier to conclude she wouldnt oppose HRC in 2016. No one of her stature did, which is why Bernie jumped in late. You want to think shell do the same thing in 2020, fine.

I heard about her bill earlier this week and it's a powerhouse bill protecting the people. A bill Dem candidates for the Senate can rally around.

(10,154 posts)She is properly focusing on the task at hand which is her Senate race. Let's see what she does next year.

Yes, thats my plan. Im running for the United States Senate in 2018, Warren told reporters Thursday, when asked if she would commit to serving out her full term. I am not running for president of the United States. Thats my plan.
