Now MSNBC's is hearing it might only be a plea agreement, not a cooperation agreement.

That would be disappointing.

On update, the NY Times report:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/21/nyregion/michael-cohen-plea-deal-trump.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer, on Tuesday reached a plea agreement with prosecutors investigating payments he made to women for Mr. Trump but the deal does not include cooperation, two people familiar with the matter said.

Prosecutors in New York had been scrutinizing Mr. Cohen for bank and tax fraud, as well as for his role in helping to arrange financial deals to secure the silence of women who said they had affairs with Mr. Trump.

The United States attorney’s office announced that there would be a “proceeding of interest” in a case against a defendant identified only as John Doe, language that almost always indicates a guilty plea. One person with knowledge of the matter said the proceeding would be the guilty plea by Mr. Cohen.

New update:

MSNBC analyst says even it's just a plea agreement, it could lead to a separate cooperation agreement.

Right. I just added that. pnwmom Aug 2018 #3
why offer a plea deal without cooperation? - n/t lapfog_1 Aug 2018 #2
That's what I thought. What's the point of a plea deal if you aren't getting anything for it? bearsfootball516 Aug 2018 #4
They often do that to get a guilty plea. But, yeah, in this particular case it seems wrong. pnwmom Aug 2018 #8

is a) in a position to know things that are not known otherwise and b) when the person doing the plea deal is the clear underling of the person not yet indicted.

I don't think prosecutors would limit his sentence to a max of 3 years without cooperation.

I guess if it is only a part of his legal problems it makes sense to just take a plea. It kind of gives both sides the option for future negotiations as well. 6th dimensional chess?

These guys (the Mueller team) are playing at a level I have never seen before. Their moves sometimes do not make much sense but in time I think we will see the plan.

and promised him a pardon. Or maybe he's cooperating in other areas? Hard to tell what's going on, there's so much criminal shit involved with Trump.

He has had to deal with this situation countless times, shutting up people who have the goods on him.

Nobody is going to flip, not in a meaningful way.

Always best to look at the big picture and not make adjustments based on day to day details. Yes these are higher stakes but it is the same game.

We have to win Novembers. Robert Mueller is not going to save anything or change the dynamic.

We need it back to 41 or lower and not the current 538 model slightly above 42.

Trend has been up. YouGov reported 43 today after 38 a few days ago
