Chicago police officers sleeping on the job has Windy City politicians raging

A photo of two Chicago police officers asleep in their squad car has gone viral after being posted online by mayoral candidate Ja’Mal Green. The photo follows another bloody weekend in the Windy City that saw 57 shootings and five murders. The previous weekend saw 71 people shot, a dozen of them fatally. Green, who hopes to replace Mayor Rahm Emanuel in November, used the picture to attack his opponent.

While the Chicago Police Department hopes to solve the problem by maintain a strong presence on the streets, the police officers union worries that cops may be worn out from being denied time off.

“In light of all of the violence that happened last week, Rahm decided to deploy 600 MORE officers & make officers work overtime! This picture proves WHY that was a bad idea,” Green wrote on his Facebook page ... Green said the photo was taken “a couple of days ago” and sent to him by a supporter.

Former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, another candidate in the mayoral race, wasn’t happy about the photo either, according to WGN. “Sleeping on duty is just inexcusable, it’s a big deal,” he told the news network.

People need to get adequate sleep to function properly. If they're being required to work unconscionable overtime, no wonder those two fell asleep as soon as they had a quiet moment.
