https://pagesix.com/2018/08/22/sadly-idris-elba-wont-be-the-next-james-bond/Idris Elba wont get a license to kill after all.
The 45-year-old British actor, a fan favorite to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, put the matter to rest Wednesday.
Stepping out with fiancée Sabrina Dhowre to attend his directorial debut Yardie, the suave actor was asked if hell assume the iconic spy role.
No, he told ITVs Good Morning Britain, which presented him with a dry martini, Bonds signature cocktail, and asked if preferred it shaken or stirred.
No word on who it will be.

(7,021 posts)He's almost 50. Need someone mid-30s, tops. I think Matt Damon was great for the Bourne flicks. Right age. That's important for a physical Superspy role.
I really like Daniel Craig. He reminds me of Steve McQueen in a way.

But, that is the time in which we live I guess.

*sigh* The season is way too short.
We subscribed to Acorn to get the British mysteries as well as the ones from other countries like Australia. Before that I got them on dvd from the library. They have them all and will order what they don't have already. Love our Colorado libraries!

Also - there was no green screen - they actually filmed in 34 below temps on the mountain and Kate Winslet really did go into the water - 7 takes!
Gotta say - I loved the ending too.

(16,646 posts)Traditionally Hollywood is more comfortable showing alot of female total nudity than male. You can imagine them actually SHOWING the sex as oppose to the more common "allusion" to sex in many Bond movies.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Honestly, I think the plot lines in Bond Movies are sort of run of the mill, they need the sex to make them halfway interesting.

(37,748 posts)You're in effect stating, "this imaginary character can only be X," despite the character being, well... imaginary.
You're placing arbitrary limits on the limitless.
No one of rational mind gets upset if a Shakespearean drama is set in the early 20th century (Love's Labors Lost, 2000) or the ghetto of New York (West Side Story). No one of sound mind gets upset when a white man plays Othello against an all black cast. And no one (except annoying fanboys) pretend sound science is applied 100% of the time to science-fiction movies.
And yet, you're railing about the immorality of a mere gender change to a fictional (let's repeat that for effect: an imaginary, made-up story) character.
Though I'm betting you'll rationalize your intolerance of a benign change as something else.
Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)in which there is a copyright the is owned by the author and in this case his estate. It is someone else's intellectual property. No one else has the right to make changes to it just as you have no right to remodel someone else's house without their permission.
And the comparison to Shakespeare is intellectually dishonest since those works are in the public domain and not copyrighted.

I guess that means Doctor Who can also never be a woman... oh wait.
Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)The copyright is owned by Fleming's estate and they respect his memory too much to mess with the character that he created.
And Doctor Who is a different character. Change, and radical change, has always part of the character so having a female Doctor Who is just the next logical step.
LanternWaste
(37,748 posts)Eon Productions owns the trademark and copyrights to the character, hence the potential changes Barbara Broccoli (producer of the current iteration) has been discussing openly with MGM.
And due to the spurious nature of trademark laws from country to country, the character is already in the the public domain in some countries.
Though I'm betting none of this will change your predisposition to a male-only actor for an imaginary role.
Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)The copyright of the character of James Bond is held by Ian Fleming's estate. And what open discussions is Eon having with MGM? Can you post a link to prove what you are claiming?

(5,914 posts)Which is sad, because Idris Elba is an amazing actor and would have nailed the part. He would have been a great James Bond.
James Bond fans would have been mad that James Bond's skin color didn't match the character described in Ian Fleming's books.
What James Bond fans don't know (or conveniently choose to forget) is that the James Bond movies bear little resemblance to the books they're based on. Most of them literally (and I mean that literally AND figuratively) share only a title with the source material. Many of them don't even share that.

(5,042 posts)The series has already been rebooted with Craig. Another reboot would not affect a thing.
I'm also getting quite a laugh that you think 'JAMES BOND FANS" don't know that Fleming's books haven't had a bearing on the movies in years. I, for one, am aware of all of it. Such as that Bond's CIA buddy Felix Leiter lost his arm in Fleming's "Live and Let Die", yet that wasn't seen onscreen until "License To Kill". And that the original "Moonraker" novel never ended up in space like the film. And that "You Only Live Twice" novel wise occurs AFTER the events of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". And that a title of one of Fleming's stories hasn't been used since 1987.
But go on about what "JAMES BOND FANS" don't know about about canon, please?
Dave Starsky
(5,914 posts)That's originally how I drafted that post, but I deleted the quotes. I, too, have followed the books and the films throughout my life. I would be thrilled with an Idris Elba Bond.
