(22,176 posts)This saying (or one similar to it) is still relevant today...instead of trying to bring all of us together, and perhaps in an imperfect way better all of our lives in some way, they have forsaken their once prominent role in American politics...too much money, and not enough accountability to the American taxpayer, and in addition, they only pay attention to their donors (1% of the 1% of the 1%) and the rest of us, who cares?

Congressional types (Senate and Representatives) are followers not leaders. They theoretically follow what we want them to do and represent our interests. Now of course they more likely follow the directions given to them by big donors or whatever the polls are telling them which way the wind is blowing, but they rarely if ever lead on any topic.
