This is insane. A mother gets investigated by Child protective services for the horrible practice

of allowing her 8 year old to walk around the block with her dog. Someone turned her in for allowing her child to be outside without a parent.

This girl is homeschooled, but she's in a school district that won't provide bussing for children unless they live at least a mile and a half from school.

So it's okay to make a kindergartner walk a mile to school, but not okay for an 8 year old to walk around the block.

IDIOTS. This mother isn't doing "free range parenting." She's doing non-idiot parenting.

Child services investigate mother-of-two, 48, for letting her eight-year-old daughter walk their Maltese puppy, Marshmallow, around suburban Chicago block on her own

Corey Widen, 48, says someone had called police and Department of Children and Family Services on her this month
Report came after Widen let her eight-year-old walk the family dog, a Maltese named Marshmallow, around the block in Wilmette, Illinois

Widen says her daughter is homeschooled and the only time she is briefly unsupervised is during her walk, most of which mom can see from her window

Police filed no charges against Widen, but DCFS spent two weeks interviewing the children and their pediatrician before clearing the mother of wrongdoing

Before we purchased our home, I called District 109 and was told the home qualified for free bussing to District 109 schools. In December 2016, I reached out to the 109 Transportation department because I drove, biked, and walked the distance to school and my house was 1.5 miles away. At that time I was told to refer to the District manual which stated I had to be OVER 1.5 miles to qualify.

No this is a high income north shore neighborhood
The village ranks 47th on the list of highest-income places in the United States with a population of over 10,000. Just sayin
DCFS must have nothing to do up there either if they have time to spend on this bs
