Would you accept Trump's resignation in exchange for giving him and his immediate family pardons?

Blanket pardons. No more investigations. Trump gets on the helicopter and flies out of town forever. No hearings. No impeachment.

What would you say to that?

--On Update--

Would you be angry if the Dems take majority in the House and agree to no impeachment investigations in exchange for Trump's resignation?

The line of succession only applies if both offices are vacant. That's why I specified Pence goes first, with a suitable appointment to VP. (In case that is not clear, once the VP office is vacant, Trump is permitted to fill it. Speaker of the house does not move into that slot.) Then when Trump resigns, that suitable appointment becomes president.

So I was answering the specific fantasy question asked: I'm only willing to accept that trade if it also includes the additional conditions I listed that would result in an acceptable person ultimately becoming president.

I'm not willing to merely trade a Trump resignation in exchange for pardons for his family, because that trade still leaves us with Pence. The additional conditions I imposed in this fantasy deal would ensure an acceptable president.

Your assertion that my scenario would give us the Speaker of the House as president is incorrect - that's all my second post addressed. Not whether either fantasy scenario had any chance of occurring.

He needs that attention and he will be in our face. Especially if somehow he gets pardoned. He will somehow turn any situation into a win.

I want to see him lose his company and his money along with his family (Jr, Eric, Ivanka, Jared, Eric's wife).

Having grown up in New York, and after living there again after I finished my 12 years in the Air Force, I saw what this human-shaped turd has been doing for a LONG time. I really want to see this lying, cheating, stealing motherfucker and his entire self-entitled family be sentenced to pay fines and restitution to the point that they are forced to sell *everything* they have, except for the clothes they were wearing when they are convicted; as part of his sentence, be obligated go on national television for 10 minutes to read an apology to the entire world for fucking everything up so badly and being such a complete asshole for his entire wasted life (and he has to stay on script, under penalty of a shock collar being activated. What the heck, just activate it at random every once in a while anyway, just for the hell of it!); to see his name stripped from every structure, worldwide (except possibly a random Porta-Potty or two); and every last one of these bastards to be held in solitary confinement in exile on Johnston Island, with only a looping feed of Keith Olbermann's commentaries as entertainment, and no contact whatsoever with the rest of the civilized world until the name 'trump' is forgotten, then have his rotting remains be buried in an unmarked grave, topped with an outhouse. He should live the rest of his days in total humiliation.

He deserves no break or leniency at all after the damage he has inflicted for the past 40 years or more.

(Yes, I would be extremely angry, but absolutely not surprised at all if the Dems got a majority in the House and agreed to no impeachment investigations in exchange for Trump's resignation.)

Even if Trump is acquitted in the Senate, almost a sure thing, the process will distract him far more that it ever did Clinton, and Trump would be far more easily distracted and rattled by this than Clinton ever was. Besides, a Senate trial would block much of McTurtle's time that he wanted to spend confirming Trump's (i.e. his) hack judges. Junior is not a sitting President. Junior isn't a sitting anything that affords him protection from prosecution, so that makes him a sitting duck.

What I also want, and only Mueller knows if this is on the back burner or off the radar completely, is a thorough investigation of Pence's funny business as well as Trump's--at least to the extent that he vows publicly not to run in 2020 even if he becomes a short caretaker president between now and then after a Trump resignation.

Fri Aug 24, 2018, 06:51 AM
Aug 2018

It's not just about "the Trumps getting the punishment they deserve"; we need to reform the election and governmental system to make it much harder for criminals to get inside it (Senator Warren's current bill would be a good start), and to deter those that will try in the future.

If the Trump family were to get away without conviction, it's harder to convict those below them. And it's harder to kick out the grifters and ideological maniacs. Pence, Zinke, Ross, DeVos, Wheeler and Mnuchin are all dangers to the USA and world, either because of their crimes, or their unwavering devotion to Christian dominionism, ruining the environment, or enriching the 1% at the expense of all others.

If Trump agreed to resign without impeachment, I think I would take that for practical reasons - getting the Senate to convict him in the impeachment process is going to be tough. That would run the risk of Pence pardoning him, but if that happened, rather than "the country in general" or "us" offering the pardon in exchange for his resignation, then it's still easier to say "we have to reform". The pardon becomes Pence's decision, and you can make it an albatross to tie round his neck.

Let’s face it, Trump being in office is a huge motivator Democrats.

Let’s also face the reality that we are a party that loses motivation easily.

Our best long-term hope is that he stays in office until whomever we elect in 2020 takes the office. That lets us use him to push turnout in 2018 and 2020.

Because I want to go into 2021 with the House, Senate and Presidency all in our hands.

Yeah. No.

If we take the house and/or Senate, I never want to hear the words "agree" or "bipartisan" or "sensible solutions".

Why is it only when Dems take control do we have to negotiate or agree to terms or any of that.

Fuck that. If we get power, use that power to take them down and reverse everything they did to damage this country.

And nope.

ETA - Second Nope - You said the House Impeachment - but the Senate Layer is there. AND - it's only impeachment. They wouldn't have the authority to stop criminal charges at the state level.

Him, his children, his friends - lots of folks will be going to prison.

But if they forfeited all of their properties and money, I might consider it.

I have this fantasy of Trump enduring a couple of simultaneous Greek mythology tortures --- roll the rock up the hill every day to have it roll down again. And have his liver eaten by a big bird on a daily basis. I think that might satisfy me.
