Indicted California Congressman Proposed Raising Retirement Age To 72

“We’re not working in caves anymore or hunting animals,” Rep. Duncan Hunter (R) told constituents.
By Daniel Marans POLITICS 08/23/2018 08:57 pm ET

In a conversation with constituents earlier this month, an indicted California congressman suggested reducing the national debt by raising Social Security’s retirement age to 72.

A constituent challenged Rep. Duncan Hunter (R) during an Aug. 7 telephone town hall to explain what the voter described as Republicans’ plans to pay for the recent tax cuts by “taking away my Medicare and Social Security,” according to audio of the call provided to HuffPost by American Bridge, a Democratic super PAC.

Hunter, whom the federal government charged Tuesday with using over $250,000 in campaign funds for lavish personal spending, argued that “entitlement spending” on social insurance programs like Social Security and Medicare was driving the country’s “debt problem.”

One way to resolve that problem, he said, would be to raise the Social Security retirement age for future beneficiaries to 72.

He later clarified that he is open to raising Medicare’s eligibility age to 72 as well.

It doesn't affect him because he planned on stealing campaign cash from GOP voting suckers for decades to come.

Toiling away and then sent to the knackers.

It had come to his knowledge, he said, that a foolish and wicked rumour had been circulated at the time of Boxer's removal. Some of the animals had noticed that the van which took Boxer away was marked "Horse Slaughterer," and had actually jumped to the conclusion that Boxer was being sent to the knacker's. It was almost unbelievable, said Squealer, that any animal could be so stupid. Surely, he cried indignantly, whisking his tail and skipping from side to side, surely they knew their beloved Leader, Comrade Napoleon, better than that? But the explanation was really very simple. The van had previously been the property of the knacker, and had been bought by the veterinary surgeon, who had not yet painted the old name out. That was how the mistake had arisen. (9.28)

We will have fewer jobs available because of increased automation and shipping jobs overseas. If anything, they should start LOWERING the retirement age, not raising it. A old person retiring frees up a job opportunity for a younger person.

Most 70 year olds aren’t going to be able to hack a full time job that requires any physical exertion. Not unless they are unusually fit.

I could picture myself puttering around an office at 60. Never mind 70 or 72.

Maybe we should all retire at 60 with a big fat congressional government pension and lifetime health benefits like Duncan’s jagoff father.

So not only does this jerk want people to work to age 72, he wants POOR PEOPLE to work to age 72. It's kind of like the abortion debate. if they overturn Roe v. Wade, then abortions will still be available in some states, which rich and middle class women can afford to travel to. Poor women cannot. So overturning Roe v. Wade really means that poor women will have to have unplanned babies (who will grow up in poverty) or dangerous, back alley abortions. This is just another assault on the poor.
