the truth about the "truth is not truth" complaint.
obviously it's terrible p.r. to argue about differing versions of the truth, but let's unpack this thought a bit.
what ghouliani and donnie are complaining about is the breaking of a norm. odd, that, given how cavalierly they break norms to suit themselves.
the norm here is the unspoken media rule that the republicans are entitled to their own version of the truth and the "reality-based community" are entitled to theirs. the media long ago gave up the job of evaluating such versions and determining which one is "correct". instead, they resigned themselves to the role of scribes. the only truth they care about is that someone *said* something. they don't much care about whether or not *what* their said is true. that's a matter for debate and it falls on the other side to point out such defects in arguments, says the media.
much like a microsoft vulnerability that they refuse to patch, this defect in the modern model of "journalism" has been exploited for decades by republicans who long ago learned they could lie with impunity and were guaranteed at least 50% of the debate with no moderator or authority ever willing or able to call them out on their lies. only democrats could do this, and they could be shouted down.
this is the norm republicans have been accustomed to and the norm upon which donnie built his entire political career starting with the whole birther nonsense.
and this is the norm they are now complaining about breaking. finally, under oath, donnie would be forced to make statements that would be reconciled against the "reality-based" notion of truth, not the fantastical myths of republican think tanks and message-spinners.
this is what they mean by "truth is not truth". donnie is being "truthful" in the world of republican spin and fabrication. easy for him when he's one of the prime determinants of "truth" in that worldview. it's "not fair" according to them, to be judged by the concept of "truth" in the "reality-based" worldview.
poor, poor donnie. the house of cards is crumbling down....
