He was a hatchetman for conservatism/Republicanism--spewing all the batshit crazy rightwing BS that Nixon knew he couldn't publicly. And make no mistake: Agnew was a master at it.

Dude actually could have been President if he hadn't gotten greedy...

But it's not uncommon or wrong for decent people to think about and reflect on the positive aspects of someone's life when they are at death's door.

And even if one just can't bring themselves to do that, it doesn't reflect well on anyone to harp on what they hate about a dying man at this point in his life journey. Such an approach is not "just being honest." It's just mean-spirited and cruel - and is indistinguishable from the kind of hatefulness we claim to abhor in our political adversaries.

Studies consistently show people vote the top of the ticket. Things like party, economy, incumbency, etc. matter far more.

there are many complicating factors in the analysis. among them, the opinion of the vice-presidential choice is generally (though not strictly) correlated with the opinion of the presidential choice.

to some extent, palin's falling numbers were a function of mccain's falling numbers; of more precisely, that he was going to lose the election regardless.

it is true that palin's selection was probably the most consequential of all vice-presidential choices, at least from among those who made it to election day. but still, i don't think, not enough to actually swing the ultimate outcome.

well, she was obviously horrible unfit for high office.

but she was also the first nationally visible politician to emerge from the foxnews bubble. someone who's entire book of knowledge came from the republican echo chamber, someone who had nothing kind to say about anyone outside that bubble, and someone utterly convinced their side was absolutely right on every issue.

we should have taken it as a warning of things to come, but we dismissed her as a fluke.

as many have shown, not the least of which is donnie himself, she was not a fluke at all.

Regarding 9/11 and it's aftermath......

I think he would have paid attention to ' bin Ladin determined to attack US' , especially after the Cole attack

I think also he would have handled the aftermath differently as well

I actually crossed the line and voted for MCain against W in that primary. I knew Bush would suck

Also if he had won that primary, there would be no Palin

Fillmore, John Tyler, etc.

In recent-ish times? The worst vice president in decadess, I think, was Cheney. Perhaps the worst president (until Trump!) as he seemed to be pulling Bush's strings.

Nixon? Agnew?

I think Pence is worse than Palin, though they're in the same mould.
