A lot of liberals are big on Lyft offering rides to vote.
Do what you think is right, but bear in mind:
Lyft and Uber and other stars of the "Gig economy" are anti-union, no benefits, no retirement, no autonomy for workers.
They want all the workforce to be like mcdonald's and walmart.
Is that really what you support?

(27,832 posts)between people who voted for or support a $15 minimum wage, yet also support or use the gig economy. It makes no sense!!

(3,622 posts)I can say without reservation that I could not care less how people get to the polls.
Knowing that the Democrat that they elect will support core Democratic principles over the Republican is enough for me to make an exception when it comes to getting to the voting booth.

(25,984 posts)On one side is the fight for economic justice - a noble cause to be sure. On the other side is assurance that everyone who wants to vote has transportation. Without the vote, everything else is reduced to futile gestures. In that context, the argument for boycotting free transportation to the polls appears a bit...light.

(2,201 posts)But, I hope you aren't suggesting that people that couldn't otherwise get to the polls should not use Lyft.
We need as many people to get to the polls as possible, regardless of how they get there.
We have to deal with the world we live in...not the one we wish we did.

(12,029 posts)Here's an article that says taxi drivers (even though unionized) don't make as much as Uber drivers do.

I've driven in Lyft several times, and none of the drivers were doing it fulltime, but to supplement their other fulltime jobs.

(5,803 posts)He does both Uber and Lyft now. He has no medical insurance and had to move his family in with his daughter and her husband.
I know that is anecdotal, but I have never talked to a happy Uber or Lyft driver. My son used both up until they charged his card $100 randomly for a cleaning fee and overdrew his account. The driver sent photos of an imaginary stain and he got his money back....ten days later.
Shady, unregulated business is bullshit.
Edit: However, I fully support people using Uber or Lyft to go vote.

(26,609 posts)the burbs. One more than a few occasions Ive driven friends, clients, or neighbors to their destination because cabs requested were either not dispatched or the driver ignored the order!

Plus, I often get a bottle of water, some tour-guide help, a clean auto.
and yes, I do tip the drivers.
