Hi.
Today is August 10th. The deadline for voter registration in Florida is less than two months away. Do you know what the voter registration deadline is in your state?
Today, I copied some information from OFA and posted it to the state groups in Florida, Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
Here's an example:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/123824
So here is what I'm asking you to do:
1: Go to this website:
http://OFA.BO/y74z2v
2: This should take you to the "about" page for your state. Click the "get registered" tab for your state. If you wish, you can select a different state.
3: On the right is a red box that says "Print the Checklist" This downloads all of the voter information as a .pdf file.
4: Copy all of the information in the file, and post it to the corresponding state forum in DU. I've entitled my posts as follows "Copy and Forward: The voter registration deadline is (Date) for (State)."
5: Please also post the link back to the corresponding GottaVote page at the top (example: http://gottavote.org/en/NE/)
6: If you find a bad link or know of something that OFA left out, please post a good link in the thread (if you can find one), and please (if you have time) let someone at OFA know.
I'm hoping that we can create a quick way to copy this information into e-mails, FB, etc. I'd also suggest saving the .pdf file for your state so it can be e-mailed to people who may need the information.

(10,000 posts)Please make sure everyone you know who supports progressive causes is:
1) registered to vote
2) knows where their polling place is located
3) has a way to get to the polls or requests an absentee/mail-in ballot
If you know you are registered, consider the following:
1) Have you moved since the last time you voted?
2) Did you get married or divorced?
3) Are you a full-time student going to a state that is different from the one in which your parents live?
If any of these are "yes", be sure to check your voter reg status ASAP!
Does the name and address on your state issued ID match what's on your voter reg card?

(10,000 posts)Take nothing for granted. I had a mentor growing up who'd always tell me "When you go hunting squirel, bring an elephant gun." Photo ID may not be required, but make sure you bring it, and make sure it matches your voter ID.
Fight voter suppression. Beat the GOP at their own game.

(10,000 posts)Take nothing for granted. Many Dems tend to write these states off. Registering Dems, organizing them, and getting them out to vote could cause surprising results -- especially in areas of the country like the South, where Republicans might not see Romney and Ryan as part of their agenda, and might be lulled into staying home.
