Civil Rights Act of 1964 made possible for all these women winning in the Olympics

An overlooked provision known as Title IX made it illegal for colleges just to offer only men scholarships, colleges had to offer and equal amount to women. This started the colleges promoting, volleyball, soccer, softball, etc teams to give females an athletic scholarship. These women then went on to compete in the Olympics and started winning medals.

The issue was completely ignored until this -

Title IX is a portion of the Education Amendments of 1972

It is still not fully enforced.
