Kirsten Gillibrand on John McCain's Passing

NEWBURGH – US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was emotional as she spoke of her colleague in Washington, Senator John McCain, who has been battling brain cancer.

Gillibrand was in Newburgh on Friday to discuss federal funding for historic preservation and her opening remarks were about McCain.

“He has decided not to take any more medical treatments. So many of us are sad about that,” she said, choking back tears. “I just want to congratulate him for his life of service and his extraordinary leadership and he is somebody who has stood up in times of great need.”

McCain’s family announced on Friday that the former POW and long-time senator has decided to end his medical treatment in his fight against his terminal disease.
