(2,667 posts)I am certain there are more guns than people in this county and the county has, arguably, the worst education system in the nation. When you hear the neighbor's political views it makes you shake - at least from those who have them. Most of my neighbors don't vote at all but still spout right wing talking points as if they were the gospel. We have some of the lowest taxes in the country, we pay way less than $1,000 a year on over 100 acres of property but local government provides nearly no services - as you might expect. Religious cults abound here, there's everything from Amish and Mennonites to snake handlers to be found along with a host of Lutherans straight out of the 18th Century. So I understand how the hometown news can be frightening but sometimes it the facets of a community that don't make the news that can really scare you more.
