What the hell is Lanny Davis thinking?

I just don't understand this at all.

Michael Cohen’s lawyer has severely undermined to the case against Trump
By Aaron Blake

August 27 at 2:38 PM

One of the most bizarre aspects of the investigations engulfing the Trump administration is the lawyers involved. Here we have a presidency on the line, and this is Trump’s team? The top legal spokesmen for each side are … Rudolph W. Giuliani and Lanny Davis!?

Up until this point, though, Giuliani was the Great Contradictor and Davis was merely a colorful character. Now that has changed in a big way.

In a pair of new interviews with The Washington Post and BuzzFeed, Davis has backed off two massive claims he made in recent weeks, including that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen had told people he witnessed President Trump being informed of Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer before it happened. He has also admitted he was the source for the initial report on that claim -- despite denying it last week.

“I should have been more clear — including with you — that I could not independently confirm what happened,” Davis told The Post of the claim, adding: “I regret my error.”

Granted, you'd hope he wouldn't burn the country to the ground in defense of his client, but attacking Trump isn't his first duty.

by changing his story in the public? It is either one way or the other, and the best approach would have been for the lawyer to keep his mouth shut (unless sowing confusion is part of the game plan, and, in that case, Lanny Davis is either a patsy or corrupt as well).

Bernstein went on to report the allegations on CNN. Davis retracted and left Bernstein holding the bag. As a result, the right wing is pointing to CNN and Bernstein and screaming “fake news, fake news”. Lanny Davis has just preformed a great disservice to the cause IMO.

SDNY attorney should have said keep your mouth shut or the deal is off.

I don't think Lanny Davis is a very good lawyer.

3. When you hire a big name

That is often what you get. For example I would have hired Barry Scheck over the other big names on the OJ dream team because he, at the time, seem more grounded in the law than in his own prestige.

For one thing I would never have gone public to begin with on what Cohen was going to say until the legal proceedings were made public.

Cohen really should get himself another lawyer.

This is just a big, right wing noise storm. The important thing isn't what Lanny Davis knows. It's what Robert Mueller knows and can prove that matters.

I also suspect that Lanny Davis knows a hell of a lot more than what he has said on the TV. And, to claim that one statement said on TV has "seriously undermined" the whole case is bullshit. The people making that claim have no idea what Mueller knows or can prove.

Avennatti being the exception since his public comments are obviously part of his legal strategy and have been very effective.

But Lanny Davis looks ridiculous. And Giuliani - well, he just IS ridiculous.
