There are a bit over 300 million people in the country. About 60% of us vote in Presidential elections, or about 180 million people. Of that 180 Million about half are Republicans and half are Democrats, so there are about 90 million Republicans. Of those 90 million Republicans about 35%, which is about 31.5 million people self identify as Tea Party adherents. And so if we look back to the beginning we see that those 31.5 Million people constitute about 10% of the population of the country. 10%, that's all it takes to throw our political system into turmoil and threaten the nation.

(2,667 posts)No doubt you are correct, so let me try again. I think there are about 308 milion people in the country and, using your number, if 71% of them are registered that should come out to about 218 million registered voters. Wiki, and others, indicate about 60% of that number vote, so that should be about 31 million. Once again I'll just say that half of those are in each party, so we're down to 15 million per side, now if we take 35% of that to represent the T-baggers that should be about 5 million of them in total, which is something less than 2% of the total population. Kind of sad, isn't it?
