News reports expect Robert Mueller to "go quiet" before the election?

It's been reported that most expect Mueller to continue his investigation but to not come out with any information that might affect the mid-term elections. Whether or not Mueller abides by that unwritten "rule' remains to be seen?

However, no one expects Donald Trump to "go quiet" during this run-up to the election. The odds are that he will be very active on Twitter and elsewhere, tearing down the investigation at every stop.

Why should one side "go quiet" if the other is trying to destroy them?

This doesn't seem very wise to me?

Mueller is very likely going to go strictly by the book. While there is no law, there are DOJ guidelines about this. Expect Mueller to follow this. However, Mueller has been extremely quiet the whole time. This just means he won't bring major indictments shortly before the election.

We can't do anything about Trump and Giuliani spouting nonsense.

DOJ regulations discourage public announcements during campaigns when public opinion can be swayed regarding active candidates. So, Trumpy isn't up for re-election, Princess Ivanka isn't up for election (thankfully), Junior and Jared aren't, either. Neither is Wilbur (Cyprus Bank) Ross.

So, unless Mueller assumes that he must pay attention to GOP whining about a silent period two months prior to an election not specifically related to targets of his investigations (and he won't assume anything), then indictments can continue to be announced and active movements in the investigations can continue, WITHOUT violating any DOJ protocols.

fighting crime and corruption doesn't take a back seat, because of some elections or other event, and it shouldn't. If you are going to stop the prosecution of someone because of some upcoming elections, then you should impose a 24 hour news blackout or the like prior to actual elections like they do in France.

but this time apply it ot Repubs.

J/K, mostly. If there are Dems out there breaking the rules, fine expose them. Right now it looks like a bumper crop of Repubs are out there to be harvested. If real crimes are involved, there should be no cone of silence until after the crooks are in office.

He won't charge criminals for thei own crimes because they are associated with Trump, who isn't running for anything? This doesn't make sense to me at all! If Comey can throw the Presidential election to Trump, getting us in this mess, it makes me sick that it is considered unethical for criminals, who aren't on any ballot, who worked for someone who isn't up for election, to be charged until after the midterms. Might as well just make sure to examine the voter registration of any criminal anywhere and make sure they don't come under indictment if they are a registered Republican and it is an election year.
