(45,021 posts)She's been making exaggerated cartoony happy/sad expressions all day long. And now, White Power hand signals. It's like having an evil republican mime over his shoulder. I hate mimes.
ps. she's definitely a key member of his team as she escorted him out at the break. This sounds like an investigative job for Rachel

(8,704 posts)Being Jewish here has nothing really to do with it. There are right-wing Jewish folks that are for pushing white power crap. They even existed in Nazi Germany.

This story has a recent picture of the Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys - and they are proudly flashing the symbol.

John Bash (right) is sworn in Thursday April 12, 2018 at the Federal Courthouse in Austin, Texas as President Trump's appointee as the new U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas by Brett M. Kavanaugh (left) as Bash's wife Zina Bash (center) looks on. Bash, a graduate of Harvard, has argued cases before the United States Supreme Court and clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. less

(6,324 posts)Some of yall are falling for it so hard your reposting the fake ACLU warnings they made up.
This looks like more trolling aimed at the same thing- to make people think on the left look stupid for falling for a totally made up claim about that being racist.

(6,324 posts)Part of my job is monitoring these groups and what they do.
The only use of that sign has been when they perpetuate the trolling.
There is no credible evidence they are using it seriously. The only places I see those claims are from people who fell for the initial trolling and now want to save face.
And by perpetuating the claims they just make the trolling even more effective.

(6,324 posts)Here is a good article on how it all started:
https://www.adl.org/blog/no-the-ok-gesture-is-not-a-hate-symbol
As for a link that its still not actually used- what you wont find is any credible source that tracks these groups and puts out intelligence on them saying it is a legitimate what power sign. And that includes the ADL who is very vigilant in tracking this stuff, and the above article shows their reporting on it.

(41,991 posts)It's a terrible thing to do if she did it but it's easy to deny and then call people hysterical and biased for bringing it up. And it's a pointless dog whistle if it is true.
We need to keep our eyes on Kavanaugh and the Senate and Bernstein's monster of a book right now.

(11,744 posts)The veracity of the OK sign as a full fledged White Power symbol is still being debated. What isn't really debated at this point is that many on the alt-right and many within Trump's circle of support flash the sign as a way to communicate something internally and to thumb their noses at the press and at liberals.
There are people who responded saying that the Anti-Defamation League said that the sign is a hoax and while the ADL is a respected name in the identification of anti-Semitic symbols, the article is from 2017 and the source that it uses to show that the sign may be a hoax is the 4-Chan thread itself that announces the idea of trolling the press and others with the OK sign.
Here is an interesting take that is a little more current, though it doesn't settle the debate.
https://lifehacker.com/is-this-an-innocent-ok-sign-or-a-white-power-symbol-1825575794
The take away for me is what the author says toward the end about when you have people like Milo Y, Stephen Miller, and other people widely known to hold White Supremacist views make the sign in a context that is at minimum ambiguous and with the intent to irritate or tweak members of the Press, people on social media, and liberals. Complete jerks are using the symbol for the purpose of being complete jerks. Whatever it means internally and whatever interpretations it has gained by association, will at one point make the use of the symbol contextual.
For Bash to be making any kind of symbol or anything that can be construed as a symbol is at the most flattering appraisal, unprofessional. She's been in politics long enough to know better.

(3,105 posts)she is a Washington R insider, I wonder who she hangs with, who is in her inner circle, could this have been a hello to a close "friend", an answer to a dare, or something like that. I don't think she knows what kind of trouble she has gotten herself in.
