Levi Strauss teams up with gun control group: We simply cannot stand by silently
By Morgan Gstalter - 09/04/18 10:38 AM EDT
American denim giant Levi Strauss & Co. announced Tuesday that it is launching a series of new initiatives to benefit groups working to prevent gun violence.
Levi Strausss CEO and President Chip Bergh wrote in Fortune on Tuesday that the company simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work.
Bergh said it was his responsibility to speak up for important issues since he leads a values-drive company thats known the world over as a pioneer of the American West and one of the great symbols of American freedom.
He added that he is not advocating to repeal the 2nd Amendment nor calling gun owners irresponsible.
Levi's, therefore, announced a new three-tiered initiative to support gun violence prevention.

(7 posts)While they did take a hit, Dick's isn't Cabelas or Bass Pro, so simply taking guns off their shelves isn't going to impact their sales all that negatively (I believe their main revenue comes from clothing). Their sales will presumably keep improving at the same pace as the economy

(51,628 posts)That is more than most other companies would do. I have to give them credit for that.

Pence would be so proud (and Lindsay Graham would be defending their right to be out there without pants - it's in the Constitution).

(7 posts)Nike just lost nearly $4 billion in shareholder value over the Kaepernick advertisement. I'm not quite sure why these big corporations think taking a political stance will be good for business.

(16,938 posts)there are still some people (and corporations) that value principles over profit (see: Kaepernick ad).

(7 posts)The 43 million they made from advertising is not enough to offset the 4 BILLION they just lost in shareholder value. And to address the above claim that Dick's is doing "better than ever" um...not quite
