(8,945 posts)have an easy job. Ryan is no floozy from Alaska who can barely put a sentence together. He is smart and knowledgeable. Here is Ezra Klein's take on this http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/11/paul-ryan-will-be-mitt-romneys-vice-presidential-pick-heres-seven-thoughts-on-what-that-means/
Joe Biden has a lot of debate prep ahead of him. Ive interviewed Ryan three times. Twice on health care (here and here), and once on economics (here). Hes very quick on his feet, and hes got a lot of experience explaining his plans to skeptical audiences. Hes also a likable and, while I dont know him very well personally, decent-seeming guy. Hes repeatedly won reelection in a moderate district. Democrats underestimate his political skills at their peril.
This being said, I think that things have just gotten REALLY interesting, and yes, I will get plenty of popcorn

(8,945 posts)do not underestimate part. Ryan is controversial, but he is smart, quick on his "mental feet", as you said, and definitely not shy about what he says. He is a Taliban in my view, a true believer and a fanatical one. He may ne a tea party favorite, but do not confuse him with various teabaggers taht say ridiculous things.

(95,337 posts)Biden is a debating champion - it's his speciality. He held back on Palin 4 years ago because he didn't want to come across as a bully. But against Ryan you'll see what Biden does best and he will rock it!
And you're right, stupid people do look at looks and Biden is a very attractive older man. Ryan looks like Eddie Munster

(32,723 posts)...like Dracula and a kindly older guy that talks sense defending their Medicare and Social Security.
I know of several little old Republican ladies that plan to vote against this madness out of the FOX "News" bubble when they were planning to just not vote before. One of them said after Bush they changed their registration from Republican to Independent but now they're going to change it to Democrat.

Attending the dinner were House members Eric Cantor, Jeb Hensarling, Pete Hoekstra, Dan Lungren, Kevin McCarthy, Paul Ryan and Pete Sessions. From the Senate were Tom Coburn, Bob Corker, Jim DeMint, John Ensign and Jon Kyl. Others present were former House Speaker and future and failed presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and the Republican strategist Frank Luntz, who organised the dinner and sent out the invitations.
That was no accident when he went after Mitch the chinless
