It's par for the course for witnesses at any hearing (and I've prepped quite a few witnesses for Congressional hearings over the years). In fact, Kavanaugh's White House handlers probably had a hand in writing some of the questions. Its a safe bet that this has been the case for all SCOTUS nominees for years and years.
