Dan Bloom Retweeted NYT Opinion
The @nytimes just published an anonymous op-ed from a "senior administration official." I'd like to posit a guess as to who wrote it. Getting my @ashleyfeinberg on began with a single word that jumped out at me...

The word is "LODESTAR." Note that it comes in the same paragraph praising John McCain. That would rule out flame-throwers like Stephen Miller and Dan Scavino and suggest someone with Senate ties. This reveal is not going to take long.

"Lodestar" just seems like an unusual word to use in general, not to mention in an op-ed that's going to be widely read. It has this whiff of sanctimony. So I search for John Kelly and James Mattis ever having used the word "lodestar." Nothing. But then...

...an example pops up of Vice President Mike Pence using the word "lodestar" in a speech at the UN in September 2017. https://blogs.state.gov/stories/2017/09/20/en/keeping-peace-vice-president-pence-addresses-un-security-council
There's more in that Twitter thread FYI

(25,253 posts)his speech - but he might not have written the speech. He might have had a speechwriter and that was the person that used the word.
Upon Edit:
Perhaps one needs to examine the writing styles of the speechwriters in the WH and that might be a clue as to who the author of this OpEd is. Now don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying that the speechwriter is Anonymous here. What I'm eluding to is that whomever Anonymous is - he/she had a speechwriter compose this OpEd because they wanted their message to come off sounding really good.
I'm assuming that there are a few speechwriters in the WH. I'm also assuming that these speechwriters are assigned to certain Senior WH officials.
So if we are able to identify the speechwriter by examining the style of the way this OpEd is composed - we might be able to whittle down to the person that is actually Anonymous.
Is there a speechwriter in the WH that has written speeches where the word "Lodestar" is used? Find that person. Find out whom their assignments are to write speeches for. Then maybe we'll have a clue as to whom Anonymous is.

(23,324 posts)He'd be someone who would want to look like a hero when Dotard goes down in flames. Hard to believe he'd have the personal fortitude to do something like this, though. He doesn't seem to have any courage, IMO. However, he's the best suggestion I have heard yet.

(15,286 posts)If it's Pence, he's in the perfect position to direct Trump to other possible suspects all while looking above the fray. It's definitely diabolical, but sometimes the meekest, most religious, most innocent-looking people are the most evil.

(61,695 posts)There is too much of a conflict of interest, so I suspect the NYT would call it "not incredible".
I'm guessing that Mattis, Kelly, and maybe someone else in close proximity to the Oval Office are doing this, not just one person.
Besides, Pence would only pray for God to send the men to take out trump.
