I'd Bet Good Money The Op-Ed was written by Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor

The author exhibited knowledge of the entire time Trump has been in office. They are also establishment conservative. These two things alone narrow down the field.

Despite the Rebuke of Trump, the author complements the successes of the administration:

Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.

All of these things would be celebrated by McConnell.

The author refers to the National Security team as a 3rd party:

He complained for weeks about senior staff members letting him get boxed into further confrontation with Russia, and he expressed frustration that the United States continued to impose sanctions on the country for its malign behavior. But his national security team knew better — such actions had to be taken, to hold Moscow accountable.

And there are several references to Woodward's book. I suspect the person had an advanced copy.

So consider this... there isn't much Dems can do to block Kavanaugh. Who would really want to dump Trump after getting what he wanted? McConnell. Who is married to McConnell? The Secretary of Labor. McConnell has been moving the pieces long before Trump got into office. He's nearly done playing his game. I'd put good money on the Anonymous Senior Administration Official being Chao.

I doubt it. When this person is outed, the R cultists will turn on him/her. McConnell could lose his phony baloney job.

Note that Chao is Secretary of Transportation--owing to her father owning a big shipping line of Chinese ships.
She is no longer Secretary of (forced) Labor.

So he wouldn't take even a small unnecessary chance.

I've thought all along that McConnell will save himself and turn on Trump when the political winds are right for that. He and Chao are well known for behind the scenes maneuvering and a drive to come out on top. They've been very successful at that in conservative circles. What better way to surface at the right time and position themselves as wise elders?
