Ryan's plan and nursing home care

up to now, if 89 y.o. Aunt Millie breaks a hip and needs a nursing home, the family is not responsible for the cost, she spends down all her assets and then applies for Medicaid. Under Ryan's plan, that would change. She would no longer be eligible for Medicaid until YOUR assets are also depleted. You, dear nephew or grandson, would have a lien placed against YOUR home, to recover any costs for her care. Our nations elderly, who worked and fought for and built this nation, will be abandoned and left blowing in the wind. Think this will never effect you? Think again.

5. It's real 'family values,' and the reason we all need to be able to afford McMansions. We'll all be

Living togehter as one big happy family, and the women will be kept home to do all this caretaking. Libertarian values at work. See, there's no cost to the government, it's all personal and in the family, like it was centuries ago.

If you can't afford or don't want to do it that way, or you're orphaned, there's always the streets. This is what they're talking about. There won't be much need for education and jobs won't matter, since half the work force will be kept at home. And the indigent can be persuaded to come and do the work at the landed gentry's homes for room and board. Nursing homes will only be for the rich.

It'll stratify society and end mobility, it's not like you were going to get that job, anyway. Don't worry, you'll all have some ancient book to tell you why it's gotta be this way. The Ryan dream, no social safety net, all a matter of birth.

IMO, that's where this leads.

I wonder if assisted suicide legislation would be far behind. It's truly a Utopia they paint for us, isn't it?

10. Sounds like Ryan would like us all to send our elders off into the frozen tundra to die

like the Eskimos had done long time ago...

Will America be letting the sick, weak, and disabled die in order to save on medical costs?

Could you expound a bit on that?

12. Currently, only the assets of the person requiring care must be spent

before Medicare kicks in. Under this plan, the entire family's assets must be exhausted. So, if Mom already lost her home and still needs nursing home care, they will now come after your home. Instead of medical expenses bankrupting a family, they could bankrupt generations of extended family members.

And, yes, there will be thousands of elderly who kill themselves rather than burden their families like this. But, that fits with their plan. If your life had any value or you were worth saving, you would have assets and health insurance to cover it. I sure hope the Catholic church denounces him. This is so, so far from their teachings and mission.

14. Where is this in his plan?

I believe I need to read the part where adult children are responsible for the medical expense of their adult parents. I don't recall seeing that before.

Thanks.

16. OP has quite the imagination, since "Ryan doesn't address long-term care in his 73-page Roadmap. "

What is suggested is that children and even grand-children will need to step in to help.

Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, made the same argument Tuesday.

"The House Republican budget proposal should be accompanied by a 'Grandma Beware!' sign," Pollack said in a statement. "The proposal will inevitably result in seniors losing the nursing home and other long-term care they need at a time when they are most frail. In addition to hurting seniors when they are most vulnerable, younger family members will need to give up their jobs so they can take full-time care of their parents and grandparents."

NOWHERE ARE EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS SUCH AS "NEPHEWS" or penalties such as "LIENS" MENTIONED.

"What is suggested is that children and even grandchildren will need to step in to help."? This language sounds suspiciously euphamistic to me.
