The Republican Party could face a devastating loss in Texas due to the fact that incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz is not likable, White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said in a closed-door New York City meeting, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Mulvaney, who also runs the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, made the comments to GOP donors while speaking with Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel in New York City.
An audio recording of the event was provided to The Times and to The Washington Post.
Do people like you? Mulvaney asked. Its a really important question.
Theres a very real possibility we will win a race for Senate in Florida and lose a race in Texas for Senate, O.K.? Mulvaney said.
I dont think its likely, but its a possibility. How likable is a candidate? That still counts, he noted.
Sen. Cruz is being challenged by Rep. Beto ORourke (D-TX)

(22,166 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if he (cruz) started accusing Mr. ORourke of crimes against humanity and other outlandish claims. Just wait, cruz will start getting desperate as the elections loom ever closer and closer.
cruz plays dirty w/ his facts and thinks he is god's gift to everyone (he's the expert man!). His personality is dirty inside and out, and one of the most unpopular politicians in Washington DC. This is why he hasn't really succeeded in spearheading any major legislation, no one wants to have anything to do w/ cruz.
Hopefully the good folks in TX will vote cruz out of office, and put in someone who will work w/ whomever to get good legislation passed.
