Tillman was an atheist and liberal. If he was alive those using him would be trying to destroy him.
<A biographer who profiled Pat Tillman says the U.S. soldier and former NFL star, who was killed by friendly fire in Iraq in 2004, would have found NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick's protests against police brutality "admirable" and likely would have joined the demonstrations.
Jon Krakauer told The Washington Post that Republicans - such as Rep. Lee Zeldin (N.Y.) - who have used Tillman's sacrifice to attack Nike's selection of Kaepernick as the face of the company's "Just Do It" campaign have an inaccurate view of Tillman's politics.
"Pat would have found Kaepernick an extremely admirable person for what he believed in," Krakauer told the Post.
"I have no doubt if he was in the NFL today, he would be the first to kneel," he added. "So there is irony about what is going on.">

(13,622 posts)All I said was that everyone should read this. And if you do, ask yourself what side he would be on. He was kind of a loose canon so I wouldn't say he would especially like Kaepernick. I would guess he would, but he might have different ideas on what they should have done.

(182,883 posts)Krakauer does an excellent job of giving a complete picture of Tillman. He was a very thoughtful and insightful guy.
He caught an incredible break after brutally beating up a guy. He got community service and was able to hide it from the 3 school's recruiting him (BYU San Jose St. and Arizona St.). Tillman finished his last hour of service and drove to Arizona State.
He became a much better person after that.
The story that I thought was so insightful was his watching and hearing about the massive operation to "save Pvt. Lynch" in Iraq. Tillman wrote in his journal that it "seemed like a PR stunt".
