At the moment, Hurricane Florence is a Category 4 storm that is expected to hit the eastern coast of the United States sometime later this week. In preparation, Robertson is declaring a shield of protection over his CBN network and Regent University and calling on God to intervene and turn the storm away from land.
Robertson claimed that when he first arrived in Virginia in 1961 to establish CBN, the region was threatened by Hurricane Esther, which he feared would destroy his fledgling network. As such, Robertson and his staff gathered in prayer and commanded the storm to shift course, which he claims miraculously happened because God stepped in to save CBN.
With another storm approaching, Robertson again gathered with CBN staff today to order Florence to veer away from land and produce no damage.
I dont want that thing to come in, Robertson said. I dont want it to hurt Regent, I dont wait it to hurt CBN, I dont want it to tear up the beautiful campus, I dont want it to tear these trees down, I dont want to see any damage, I dont want a bunch of glass flowing, and I dont want [damage] all over this area that is counting on us to pray for them.
Robertson then commanded Florence, in the name of Jesus, to change its path away from land and to spin off into the Atlantic ocean.
We declare in the name of the Lord that you shall go no farther, you shall do no damage in this area, he said. We declare a shield of protection all over Tidewater and we declare a shield of protection over those innocent people in the path of this hurricane. In Jesus holy name, be out to sea!
Robertson then assured those who had gathered in prayer that they will live to mark this day as the moment when their prayers guaranteed that we are not going to let Hurricane Florence hurt us.

(4,220 posts)Yes, Pat, go to the roof and check the chimney or the satellite dish. Remember, you cant examine the electric lines unless you have a firm grip on them. Jesus can hear you better from up there. And dont wear any shoes if theres lightning.
Let him climb up and point to Jesus to stop the hurricane. Please Pat.

(18,641 posts)To think that if you declare something you want in the name of the Lord, that God will change the course of nature to help you.
And if you don't do that then God won't consider you at all and will let the thing barrel right on through.
God doesn't seem to pay any attention to you unless you either beg him to help or boldly proclaim you demand something in his name.
Just bizarre thinking.

(7,220 posts)Kind of forgets about you and lets shitty stuff happen. Unless he gets lots of attention, then, if he's "feeling it", you might be spared. Unless you're gay or have brown skin, then, even though he made you that way, your shitouttaluck.
Now that I wrote all that, "God" sounds a lot like Donald Trump.

Anyone know the probability of a weather shift in this storm? It looks pretty square on to me but there's always the possibility of a direction shift. I think he's betting the long shot.
I know this is terrible but every time I see a hurricane coming in I always hope it hits his little facility head on. My apologies to the innocent people who live there but I have no magical powers that would make my wish come true just because I say so.

(16,829 posts)VIRGINIA BEACH
City Manager Dave Hansen said Monday that he is preparing to declare an emergency and recommended evacuations for the southernmost coastal parts of the city mainly Sandbridge and the Back Bay. The biggest concern? Flooding from Hurricane Florence. The Category 4 storm with winds of 130 mph is projected to make landfall on the coast of the Carolinas on Thursday morning. A watch for life-threatening storm surge could come for Southeast Virginia as early as Tuesday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center. There are two main projections for the storm. "In either of the two landfall scenarios, we believe (the Back Bay, Sandbridge and southern watershed) areas will be in a higher risk category than anywhere else in the city," Hansen said.
As a precaution, the city plans to open some shelters in Kellam High School, Corporate Landing Middle School, the city's Field House at Princess Anne Commons and Old Donation School on Thursday morning. Additional ones could open Friday and Saturday if conditions worsen. "Please start thinking now about staying or going," said Erin Sutton, director of the citys Office of Emergency Management. "It's a bright and sunny day, but make your plan today."
It is difficult to decide where residents should go because other parts of Virginia may be hit harder by the hurricane, Hansen said. "I'm a bit hesitant to evacuate citizens out of the city because I'm not so sure the risk elsewhere in the state is not greater than here in Virginia Beach," he said. "Taking out citizens and pushing them that far inland (to central Virginia) I can't promise you that that's the best choice." That's why the city is preparing to help residents hunker down at several shelters throughout the city.
In a best-case scenario, there will be a maximum capacity of 15,000 in the city shelters. There are nearly 100,000 people living in areas most at-risk for flooding throughout Virginia Beach. "Our citizens are very adept at dealing with the volume of precipitation that we have experienced over the last three years," Hansen said. After Hansen signs an emergency order, the City Council needs to approve it Tuesday, which is required by ordinance. Virginia Beach is still working on increasing the flood capacity of the city's overall drainage system, said Mark Johnson, the public works director. City workers are pumping down some bigger lakes, like Asheville and Sherwood, in the southern part of the city. Public works is also double-checking its pump stations, generators and fuel tanks to ensure that they're ready when the storm hits. Johnson's office will coordinate with the Virginia Department of Transportation on any evacuation plans. The city is still in talks with the state for evacuation plans, officials said.
