In September 2017, just days after President Donald Trump dubbed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un little rocket man, the president assembled his national security team at the White House to discuss U.S. policy toward the hermit kingdom.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) attended and suggested that Trump encourage the Chinese government to assassinate Kim and replace him with a North Korean general whom they control. The suggestion, recounted in veteran reporter Bob Woodwards new book FEAR, would have been a dramatic course of action during a highly tense exchange of words with a hostile foreign power. Trump obviously never acted on the advice ...
Grahams spokesman Kevin Bishop declined to comment ... but acknowledged that Graham has sought to encourage Trump to adopt a more hawkish foreign policy, occasionally in contrast to some of the presidents senior military and foreign-policy aides.
The president assured the senator that he was also open to starting a war with North Korea. There is a military option: to destroy North Koreas nuclear program and North Korea itself
If thousands die, theyre going to die over there. Theyre not going to die over hereand [Trump has] told me that to my face, Graham said.
... a senior GOP congressional aide: We would be at war with half the world if Lindsey had it his way.

(23,314 posts)with Montanans who seem to vote against their own best interests at least half the time. Tester has heavy support among the states veterans on both sides of the political aisle and that may be what keeps him safe. Testers opponent is spending a crap ton of money on advertising that Im seeing on MSNBC and even YouTube. While I hate political ads, Id like to see a little more from John Tester. My fingers are crossed that Montana keeps its collective head on straight this Nov!

About 8 of 10 people in my area vote Repug -- aka, against their own interests. That's only a little worse than the whole state.

North Korea has made surprisingly rapid improvements in missiles. Can we be certain they cant drop the big one on Washington DC pretty soon? Im not sure leader assassination doesnt have blow back.
