Using a slower-than-normal cadence, Trump marked the day by reading a speech off of a teleprompter. The group of MSNBC pundits set a low bar for the speech and immediately praised Trump for his words and his delivery.

He focused on them, focused on the heroes, Hadley continued. He found a very powerful story, and I think its important for the American people to remind the sacrifice and the courage those men and women on that plane displayed. So I think it was a difficult moment, and I think he rose to the moment and helped the country to remember.
NBC News political reporter Josh Lederman argued that Trumps speech was successful because he did not talk about himself.
You know, Hallie this is the speech many in the White House were praying president Donald Trump would be able to give, the tone they were hoping he would be able to strike on a somber occasion like this, Lederman explained. It was sober. It was emotional. He made it about other people.
He wasnt self-reverential, the reporter added. He told personal stories, and he really allowed this day to be for other people, and I think that its going to probably go down as one of the better speeches this president has given.

(22,129 posts)god, I hate using this word 'presidential' for he overwhelming is NOT.
Only after months and months and years, if he has truly changed, will I even remotely consider it, and by then, it's too late. Far too many negative marks on his report card.
Right now, I'd flunk him. Period.

(5,810 posts)Arriving for the memorial service I have the following impression. Melania, clearly disgusted by his inappropriate display, pinched him hard and gave an elbow to his ribs. Through gritted teeth she whispered hoarsely that he needed to stop it. Tone it down. Remember what you are here to do, you idiot!
If only we had thought bubbles over the heads of the people on that tarmac.....🤔

(22,129 posts)how he acted...I didn't see Melania's pinch/admonition to stop behaving like a child...but I'm not surprised.
I got a funny feeling that she's going to break up their marriage...after all, how long does one stay married to a child, an absolutely spoiled brat?
Take care...

(5,810 posts)She looked like she would have liked to do that to him. And maybe she SHOULD do that.
I do recall one time she had to nudge him to cover his heart after he just stood there while everyone else dutifully placed their hands over their hearts. Dumbbell. 😡
