To pass the Reich judicial nominees to screw us over. None of our incumbents will have any campaign time!

Traditionally the Senate hits the road for October of an election year. But the Senate is throwing tradition out the window this year.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is planning to keep the chamber in session for a significant portion of October if not four entire weeks, costing Democrats key campaign trail days and allowing the chamber to continue its work into the fall, according to five Republican officials. The GOP leader wants to keep cranking through as many lifetime judicial nominations and executive nominations as he can with his majority in the balance and the GOP still with the unilateral ability to confirm President Donald Trump's picks.

(1,997 posts)If so, our incumbent senators running for reelection should not bother staying in D.C. Have the people not on the ballot stay there to ask a lot of questions and delay things as much as possible, knowing that we will lose all the votes anyway.

It's McConnell, nothing is really a surprise.

(11,175 posts)This scheduling will be a problem for Heller (R-NV) and Cruz (R-TX). The Democrats' other prime pickup opportunities are for open seats. Flake (R-AZ) and Corker (R-TN) are retiring, so they have nothing better to do than to go to Senate sessions and committee hearings.
By contrast, several Democrats will be affected, notably Tester (D-MT), Heitkamp (D-ND), Donnelly (D-IN), McCaskill (D-MO), Manchin (D-WV), and Nelson (D-FL). Call me crazy but I think this arithmetic has occurred to McConnell (R-Sleazeball).

(11,175 posts)The 2020 map is nearly the reverse of this year's: Republicans must defend many more seats, and most of the Democratic incumbents are safe.
Now that the tradition of the October recess has been broken, it will serve the GOP right if their vulnerable incumbents have to choose between campaigning and doing their jobs.
