Kid on MSNBC said he may not vote this year because he's not "inspired" even though Republican are still poisoning Flint. What the living fuck does he need, Elvis?

(7,447 posts)it's purity. Youth tends to think in absolutes. I know when I was his age I was way more absolutist than I am now.

(89,252 posts)just "I want to be inspired" but I guarantee you, if Bernie were running he'd vote. Or Obama. Or someone he found likeable.

(171,072 posts)in Michigan than in the general, and yes, Bernie was popular.
I voted for Bernie and Obama, but also Hillary. He needs to smell the corpse flowers.

(7,447 posts)vote for him, lament he lost, think Hillary sucks...that's all fine.
But when you are then left with Hillary and Bernie, and you (the royal you, not you personally) cannot suss out that one evil is 1000 times worse than the other "evil" then I'm sorry, I just can't.

(4,218 posts)What shoes to buy, what to eat, will I take a shower. I cant stand it. Maybe he should learn how to motivate himself and find inspiration in every day life, like survival.
That is seriously a good point. People get out of bed every damn day and go to an uninspiring job because the alternative sucks. Inspiration is not an entitlement.
Well said!

(5,693 posts)As I said in another thread: I dare any one of these young people to state a single issue on which they might have disagreed with Hillary to the point of being unable to vote for her over Trump. What, exactly, made her just a little bit less evil than Trump? My guess is years of brainwashing by FOX and their ilk about the Clintons.

(21,646 posts)One told me in 16 besides the emails and wall st speech, that Clinton and the Dems didn't care about health care . I showed him the dem 2016 platform .
But that's not Clinton he said she doesn't seem to care about health care at all.
I calmly told him in the 1990s , she was demonized by republicans for pushing health care reform as an issue when First Lady .
Of course this would be before he was born, and I do not think he believed me at all nor cared to check out the history

(5,376 posts)This person wasn't brainwashed by FOX. He was brainwashed by the absolutism on the left. Remember that hardcore liberals have been bashing the Clintons as long as the right wing has.

(569 posts)Our culture encourages people to obsess on their feelings. Politics isn't about feelings -- it's about doing the right thing. But so many people sit around waiting to "feel right" somehow instead of using their heads & doing their duty.

I had a conversation with a very good friend last night. We have not talked in years so it was good to connect again. During the conversation I mentioned Trump and how screwed up he is. My friend totally agreed. I then mentioned voting and he replied that he has never voted. I told him that he needed to register and vote. He is Afro American so I tried to emphasize the fact that they do not want him to vote and he is playing right into the GOP trap for minorities. I hope he understood the message.

(13,776 posts)Thats probably a huge part of why young people dont vote as much as they should... they expect the 2008 version of Obama with every election because thats what they saw when they were old enough to start paying attention.
This show could end up being a good indicator of how the DNC needs to hone its message when it comes to the youth vote: Waiting for inspiration doesnt keep lead out of your water.
