Republicans Give Up Trying to Keep Trump on Message

September 13, 2018 at 7:06 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“In an alternate universe, President Trump would be heading into the midterms relentlessly touting his stewardship of a strong economy with results that include historically low unemployment, solid economic growth, sky-high enthusiasm among small businesses and shattered records for job openings,” Politico reports.

“Instead, the president is repeatedly muddling that message with easily debunked falsehoods or hyperbole about the state of the economy while pressing on with unpopular trade wars that frustrate establishment Republicans and business groups worried about price increases. His undisciplined approach — coupled with his obsessing about the Russia investigation, Hillary Clinton and the 2016 election — is damaging what many Republicans say should have been a political slam dunk for the GOP heading into the fall.”

Almost 1/3 of American workers make $10 an hour or less. Most aren't invested significantly in the stock market. Job openings without a living wage and benefits mean nothing.

It's the same story as the tax cuts. Republicans can't grasp the fact that even their voters don't see a benefit to them as most went to the top. These pols believe tax cuts resonate so much they are trying round 2.

When you don't struggle day-to-day to survive you don't realize how much people are suffering.

Trump can say the economy is booming all he wants, but people see what their daily life struggles tell them, and for so many in this country, it is not going well.
